Practice Expectations
Our goal for practices is for everyone to work hard, improve their technique and speed, and have fun! If you follow these simple guidelines, together we can accomplish all our goals!
Parents
- Please make sure your swimmers are at practice on time and ready for practice (suits, goggles and caps on). Please write your swimmer's name on their right shoulder blade with a sharpie. This will help the coaches learn your swimmer's name. Your swimmer should also be wearing a one-piece swim suit for practice.
- Parents are welcome inside the pool area during practice; however, they should stay clear of the main pool area allowing the coaches to conduct practices without interruption. Feel free to sit at one of the tables or relax in a lounge chair by the pool. If you need to talk to a coach, please ask to speak to him or her AFTER practices, or send an email. Please do not approach a coach on the side of the pool during practice. This does not mean the coaches aren’t interested in your input. With almost 180 swimmers and back-to-back practices, they are focused on coaching swimmers.
- Siblings that are not swimming must stay with parents. Please do not allow them to run around the pool deck.
- Please make every effort to come to practice. We understand that there are camps, vacations and other activities. Practice time is the time to work on skills and speed. Lack of practice will result in little progress.
- Please encourage your child to be respectful of the coaches and their teammates.
- If the weather looks unfavorable, cancellations or delays of practices will be announced on Facebook and via REMIND.
- If you drop your swimmer off at practice and leave, please make sure there is a parent that can be responsible for your swimmer. This is especially important for swimmers younger than 13. Please do not ask coaches to "watch" your swimmer (other than coaching them).
- The pool gate must remain closed at all times. Please help us with this everyday. The health department will fine us if the door is left open.
- When you leave practice, help your child gather up all their belongings and throw away any trash.
Swimmers
- Please be respectful of the coaches, the other swimmers and yourself. Practice time is not playtime.
- All swimmers 11 and up will be expected to swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool) unassisted, without stopping. All swimmers 7-10 will be expected to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) unassisted, without stopping.
- Unsafe or inappropriate behavior in or around the pool will result in dismissal from practice.
- Be ready to practice: suits, goggles, and caps on when you arrive.
- When you are at practice, you will be expected to swim the whole time. The only exception is if you are sick. Then, you will need to exit the pool deck with your parent.
- Always let a coach know if you have a problem. Don't be afraid to speak up!
- Give 100% effort every time you practice. Hard work in practice will result in successful swims at meets!
- When you are not swimming, please stay with your parent or guardian. Do not run around the facilities, throw rocks on the tennis courts, or hang around the starting blocks.
- Please make sure you clean up all your belongings and trash when you leave the pool deck.
